Weekly Torah portion
Parascha Korach קרח
Numbers (Bamidbar) · Numbers 16:1-18:32
„Baldness / Korah"
Summary
The portion tells the story of Korach, a Levite who leads a rebellion against Moses and Aaron. He challenges their leadership and the exclusive right of Aaron’s family to the Priesthood, claiming that the entire congregation is holy.
Moses proposes a test involving incense to see whom G"d will choose. Ultimately, the earth opens up and swallows Korach and his leading followers, while a fire consumes others, proving that Moses’ authority is divinely ordained.
Following the rebellion, G"d reinforces the status of the Priesthood through the miracle of Aaron’s staff budding. The portion concludes by outlining the gifts and responsibilities given to the Priests and Levites to maintain the Sanctuary.
