Weekly Torah portion
Parascha Bereshit בראשית
Genesis (Bereschit) · Genesis 1:1-6:8
„In the beginning"
Summary
The Torah begins with the Creation of the world over six days, culminating in the first Sabbath. G"d creates light, the sky, land, plants, and animals through His word.
The first humans, Adam and Eve, are placed in the Garden of Eden but are eventually expelled after eating from the Tree of Knowledge. They then begin the cycle of human history outside the garden.
Generations pass, leading to a rise in wickedness and corruption among humanity. The portion concludes with G"d deciding to bring a flood, though finding favor in a man named Noah.
